  1. Our Activities and how to join in

Skills for Life

Our Skills for Life programme offers people with disabilities a range of monthly, Saturday morning, community based interactive workshops on a range of themes to aid independent living and we host a number of longer format workshops where we can cover more detailed learning.

Saturday morning workshops themes have included:

  • Planning a day out
  • Healthy eating
  • Staying safe on social media
  • Staying safe at home
  • Staying safe in the community
  • Cleaning your home
  • Using public transport
  • Supermarket shopping on a budget
  • Men's health
  • Women's health
  • First Aid

Longer form workshops have included:

Re-BUILD and the BUILD Booster Programmes - 10 sessions that addressed the challenges of initially recovering from the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic by providing support and personal development opportunities and following an independent evaluation was adapted to focus more on independent living skills.

Managing your Money - a 4 session programme, supported by Barclays Bank, providing skills on personal and domestic budgeting, understanding personal banking, reducing the risk of becoming a victim of fraud, and social budgeting ending up with a shared meal in a restaurant and a shared bill.

Safer Relationships - a three session programme exploring the difference between acquaintances and professional relationships, personal friends and loving and more intimate relationships including sexual health. Participants learned about appropriate behaviours, and personal safety and consent issues.

Workshop themes are responsive to the needs identified, and shared with us, by our beneficiaries and their support teams to ensure that they are relevant to helping people be as independent as they can, and want to be.
