Fuse Parties "The best night out for people with disabilities in Norfolk" - so say our Fuse attendees Fuse Parties are nightclub style nights out for people with disabilities, hosted jointly by experienced DJs, Club and Bar staff at local venues and the BUILD Charity. They are for anyone, with any disability aged 18 or over. Whilst there is normally a BUILD Charity member of staff on site for all events, safety and security is provided by the venue's own staff, so those needing additional care and support need to bring that with them. Each event runs from 6.30pm until 9pm with pay on the door prices (from April 2024) of £8 (or £4 for BUILD Gold members presenting their cards). Each person can bring up to two carers who get free entry. No need to book, just turn up and pay on the door. Identification and proof of age may be required in line with venue policies. A fully stocked bar of beers, spirits, cocktails and soft drinks are available at club prices, and we actively encourage responsible drinking through informed choice. Norwich Fuse Parties began in January 2012 with Chicago's Nightclub in Prince of Wales Road, Norwich, before moving to Club Mercy and currently operating out of the UEA managed Adrian Flux Waterfront in King Street. Fuse Club nights happen once a month, normally on the last Thursday of the month but dates vary depending on other events at the venue. Kings Lynn Fuse Parties Fuse Parties in Kings Lynn have been cancelled. Following a review of falling attendances at the Kings Lynn Fuse parties the reluctant, and disappointing decision has been taken by both the BUILD Charity and Dr Thirsty’s to end this activity. Average attendances have almost halved since 2018 with an average of only 34 paying guests attending events during the last year. As part of a wide-ranging review conducted by both parties, we considered 5 options which included looking for a new local partner organisation to host the parties, increasing the entry fee to better reflect the cost of providing the service, or for Dr Thirsty’s to take over the marketing and management of the event from the shared responsibility with the BUILD Charity. Ultimately, having considered all of the options we could not escape from the fact that not enough paying customers were attending during 2025 to make the event financially viable, with both Dr Thirsty’s and the BUILD Charity losing money on each event. Something neither organisation can continue to do. Fuse Parties had been launched by the BUILD Charity in Norwich in January 2012 in partnership with Chicago’s Bar and a second monthly event launched with the same company in Kings Lynn in 2013 until that venue closed. A new partnership was formed with Dr Thirsty’s in 2018 and then re-launched four times a year when the bar re-opened after the Covid-19 pandemic closures. Numbers of people attending had bever reached the heights of the Chicago’s days and from an average of 66 people per session in 2018, they fell to 34 in 2025. BUILD Charity’s Chief Executive, and the founder and host of the Fuse Parties, said “We are sorry to close and disappointed for us all, but we agree with Dr Thirsty’s that this service is no longer financially viable for either of us. In a world where budgets are increasingly tight and when paying customers stop coming, then neither of us can afford to take the losses. We know that many people will be hugely sad to see the events end as we had some great party nights to remember.” He continued “We are open to working with another local disability organisation in Kings Lynn and West Norfolk if they can find a venue partner to run a similar style event and will be willing to initially co-promote it as part of the transition arrangement.” We want to thank the owners, management and staff of Dr Thirsty’s (including Danny, Jo, Josh, and DJs Mark and Chef) for persisting with the service during last year when numbers were falling and for making people feel safe and welcome over the last 8 years. Fuse parties at the Waterfront in Norwich are not affected by this decision as they currently are seeing an increase in numbers attending, and people from the west of Norfolk are welcome to join these events.
