  1. Our Services

Community Opportunities Programme

Our Community Opportunities Programme (COP) provides people with disabilities with a wide variety of community based social, and leisure opportunities with a level of appropriate support to help them maximise their social life.

The programme is based on a regular series of opportunities where people can choose to engage or not, and details are published in a three monthly programme booklet and on-line.

Each opportunity is supported by a minimum of two vetted and trained volunteers, and the support team is increased where appropriate.

Here is an example of the opportunities offered:

  • Sunday Lunch Club - normally on the first Sunday of the month at a pre-planned pub, restaurant or cafe for a small group of people to meet and munch!
  • Ten Pin Tuesdays - normally on the first, third and last Tuesdays of the month in Norwich and Dereham (last) where people have the opportunity to meet for food first and then join others for bowling.
  • Fitness for Fun - once a month sessions at Energise (our dance based exercise class), the Norwich Fitness Academy Gym (a form of circuit training tailored to individual needs) and Saturday Swimming at the Riverside pool in Norwich.
  • Grow and Go - our monthly session in our Cottage Garden or allotment growing fruit and vegetables to share, and cook with.
  • Weekend Walkabout - our monthly walk  on a Sunday afternoon in the city, coast or countryside, often finishing in a pub or cafe.
  • Boccia - once a fortnight sports sessions at the UEA Sportspark on a Monday evening
  • International Food Quest - a monthly Thursday evening meal at an internationally themed restaurant to learn about the food and culture of different countries through tasty food and a quiz.
  • Sunday Cinema - a monthly visit to the Vue Cinema in Norwich to see a film on current release
  • Fuse parties - at The Waterfront in Norwich (normally the last Thursday of the month) and Dr Thirsty's in Kings Lynn (normally the second Thursday of each month). These are Club style parties in nightclub venues with DJ sound and light shows, fully licensed bar facilities and door staff. These events are hosted by the BUILD Charity and only open to people with disabilities and their guests.

To book a place on any of our community opportunities Click HERE or call the BUILD Charity Office for assistance.

Please note that our full Community Opportunities Programme has been currently and temporarily replaced with a small group, mostly outdoor based programme as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic.
