BUILD Members can now register their interest to join in one of 8 free places on a new programme starting in September 2022. You may remember our Re-BUILD programme from 2021, and following an independent evaluation, we have improved its content and design and are delighted to launch  the new Get Connected and the BUILD Booster Programme which yet again is a free to join programme.

What is BUILD Booster and Get Connected?

“The BUILD Booster Programme is an 8 session programme of 2 hour workshops, activities and shared experiences aimed at supporting adults with disabilities with embracing and enhancing life after the socially isolating impacts of the Covid-19 global pandemic of 2020-22. The aims are to boost confidence, opportunity and greater independence to make informed choices about how they live and what they do.

A sister programme “Get Connected” will provide those with little or no digital access experience with the skills to set up an iPad, get an e mail address, and use the internet and Apps to access information for creating greater independence in their living. This will be delivered by colleagues from Norfolk County Council’s Adult Learning Team.

At the end of the programme participants get to invite family and friends as guests to a “Graduation Ceremony” where their achievements are celebrated.

Who is it for? - It is open to anyone currently registered as a member with the BUILD Charity, with priority being given to people who are currently Gold members, followed by Basic members and then new members. New Members can join for £20 per year to access all the benefits beyond this programme. (Graduates of the Re-BUILD 2020-21 programme are not able to apply for this programme)

How will it work? - Get Connected will be delivered via 4 Wednesday evening workshops (28th Sept, 5th Oct, 12th Oct and 19th Oct) delivered by Norfolk County Council between 6.30pm – 8.30pm at the Lazar House, Sprowston Road, Norwich within the Wednesday Club.

BUILD Booster will be delivered through 8 Monday evening sessions (24th October – 12th December) between 7pm and 9pm at the Diamond Centre, School Lane, Sprowston, Norwich in small groups, supported by a BUILD Staff Tutor and a voluntary support assistant.  Details of the programmes' full content is available if you Click Here

Participants will be expected to attend all workshops in the series, but can choose to do either just one, or both of the programmes. Those people who complete both programmes will get a FREE iPad to keep at the completion of the courses.

How much will it cost? - Thanks to grant funding from the Edward Gostling Foundation, there will be no charge to participants. This will cover the loan of an Ipad for the programme, which participants will get to keep, ONLY if they complete the two programmes as a BUILD member.

How to Apply for a place? - There are only 8 places on each workshop and they will be allocated on the basis of need. All applications will be considered, but if we have more than 8 applications priority will be given to people who are current members of BUILD Charity, and want to, but are unable to, access on-line services. Those people who are unable to get a place on either of the programmes will go on a reserve list for future programmes.

There is a simple application form, Click Here that will need to be completed, and returned to us no later than 29th August with applicants being notified of whether they have been awarded a place by the end of the following week. Please make clear whether you are applying for a place on both courses, or just one of them.

Those taking part will be asked to sign a commitment form, which also includes an agreement for us to loan a new Ipad for the duration of the programme. This will remain the property of the BUILD Charity until the end of the programme but may be transferred to the participant, if the participant has completed both the Get Connected and Booster programmes.

Where to find out more information? - The programme was designed and developed by, and will be partly delivered by, BUILD Charity’s Chief Executive, James Kearns, who will be supported by other colleagues and volunteers in the programme delivery. If you want to know more about the workshops content please call 01603 618029 or e-mail [email protected]

Applications must be received by 29th August 2022
